One of the great campus events of the year is Ferris State University‘s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The 2016 edition, Ferris’ 30th, did not disappoint.

The News Services and Social Media Team collaborated with the Office of Multicultural Student Services and the MLK Celebration Planning Committee to assist with pre-event promotion as well as post-event coverage. Additionally, our team was active on social media in promotion of the Celebration. We’re proud to annually serve as a partner in the promotion of Ferris’ MLK Celebration.

Communications Specialist John Smith wrote a Celebration preview release as well as a separate piece that included an interview with the Celebration’s featured speaker, social justice activist Tamika Mallory. John had an opportunity to interview the guest speaker, beforehand, to liven the story up.

Videographer Hannah Crouch was also quite active with promotion of the Celebration. Her work has included a preview video as well as a video that highlighted the annual Freedom March — an event that welcomed more than 300 participants. The videos are also embedded in this post, below.

A big thanks is in order for University photographer Bill Bitzinger for the great images that he provided us for our social media platforms. Hannah and one of our student workers, Natalie Bycraft, also provided photo support. Thanks also to Natalie for going on camera for the preview video. Our opportunities to collaborate with campus partners makes our work all the more enjoyable.

Thank you to OMSS, in particular Director Matt Chaney and Assistant Director Mike Wade, and the MLK Celebration Planning Committee for allowing us to be part of a great annual celebration.
